Located in the central African nation of Burundi, The Yandaro washing station processes coffee from over 3000 small family coffee growers in the hills around the Kayanza province.

During the harvest season, all coffee is selectively handpicked. Most families only have 200 to 250 trees, and harvesting is done almost entirely by the family.

To support these tiny local producers, The Yandaro washing station participates in a number of farmer outreach and support projects including a goat and pig project, Farmer Hub, strengthening local cooperatives and distributing fertiliser and coffee trees.

This particular lot is the Red Bourbon coffee variety, processed using the ‘honey’ method - which involves pulping the ripe coffee cherries before allowing them to sun-dry in the sticky, honey-like mucilage. The end result is a coffee with both a deep, fruity sweetness while also maintaining a balance of delicate acidity - which delivers really tasty results in both espresso & filter brewing methods.
